History

The Post-Graduate Program in Biofuels, with Master's and Doctorate Stricto Sensu courses, is a bi-institutional program constituted by a broad association between the Federal University of Jequitinhonha and Mucuri’s Valley (UFVJM) and the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU).

The adopted model inspires integrated actions and uses the skills installed at UFVJM and UFU. The most prominent feature is to cover all production chains interfaced with the theme "biofuels". The support for the broad working strategy of this model is based on the interweaving between: (i) agricultural-forestry production system, source of the precursor biomass for biofuels, materials and chemicals; (ii) industrial processes; (iii) characteristics and quality of biofuels, use and corresponding market; (iv) use of agro-industrial by-products and (v) effects on the natural environment.

The Program includes is comprised of specialist teachers whose individual areas of work are integrated into the central objective of the Program. The Program, which covers the entire biofuel production chain, builds the intended connection with very peculiar network characteristics. The institutional unit is centered on the major objective of training specialists, generating knowledge and technological innovation, for the industrial production of unconventional sources of energy, specifically derived from biomass.
